I am currently the Chair of the Industrial Engineering Department and an Associate Professor at Southern Illinois University, Edwardsville. My educational background includes a Ph.D. in Industrial and Management Systems Engineering, which I earned from the University of South Florida. My research interests are in medical image processing, medical product development, data analytics, and computational biomechanics. In addition to my academic work, I also have over 12 years of industry experience in a variety of positions and departments.

 
Research Interests

My passion lies in researching the intersection of engineering and healthcare, with a particular focus on health systems. Within this field, I have developed specializations in computer-aided diagnosis using pattern recognition and machine learning techniques, data analysis, computational biomechanics, and the design and fabrication of biomedical instrumentations. My research is driven by a desire to solve complex challenges, and I approach these challenges with a rigorous theoretical treatment that is relevant to both academia and industry. I strive to develop solutions that are broadly applicable to significant emerging applications, thus addressing the heart of science and engineering.

Throughout my research career, I have been committed to achieving excellence in both scholarship and practice. My approach to research is based on a strong foundation of theoretical knowledge, coupled with a practical understanding of the challenges that arise in real-world scenarios. I have consistently pursued interdisciplinary collaborations, which have allowed me to expand my research into new and innovative areas.

I plan to continue my work in health systems, with a focus on further developing the applications of computer-aided diagnosis, data analysis, and computational biomechanics. My goals include designing and developing biomedical instruments that can improve healthcare outcomes, with a particular emphasis on creating tools that are affordable and accessible to underserved populations. My research achievements to date include numerous publications in high-impact journals, as well as several funded research projects. I have also had the opportunity to mentor and teach students, and I am committed to inspiring the next generation of researchers and engineers to pursue excellence in the field of healthcare.

In all the classes that I have taught, there are certain principles that guide my teaching philosophy. I believe that a good professor inspires students and instills in them a desire to learn more and delve deeper into a subject. I was fortunate to have learned from such teachers and professors in my life, who have inspired me to pursue this noble profession.

One of my primary goals while teaching is to inspire and motivate students to enjoy the subject they are studying. I strongly believe that students learn best when they enjoy what they are studying. To achieve this, I strive to create a student-centered learning environment, in which students are motivated to gain knowledge. I work toward this goal by creating an environment of mutual respect that helps the students feel comfortable and confident to ask questions and participate actively in class discussions. I frequently reiterate the importance of asking questions and initiating discussions to encourage active participation.

I am a strong believer in teamwork and at the same time, expect individual contributions. I feel that students learn a lot by working with people of different attitudes, learning styles, cultures, and countries. This diversity enhances the learning experience and helps students develop important interpersonal skills that will benefit them throughout their lives.

In summary, my teaching philosophy is based on inspiring and motivating students, creating a student-centered learning environment, encouraging active participation, and promoting diversity and teamwork. I am committed to providing my students with the tools they need to succeed and helping them develop a lifelong passion for learning.
